NESTOR BOLUM (Nigerian) VERSUS SIAKANE BOXING FIGHT ATTRACTS $2,000 GATE FEE TO WATCH!!

Nestor Bolum
Boxing fans in Sydney, Australia, will pay as much as $2000 (about N900,000) to watch former Nigeria’s Bantamweight 54kg boxer, Nestor Bolum, who will stage a return to the ring on Friday, November 11, against Apichet Siakane of Thailand. The fight will hold at Club Punchbowl in Sydney Australia.
Bolum, one of Nigeria’s last men standing at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, has not taken part in active boxing since January 2011, though he had one warm-up match in August this year.
According to organizers of the fight, regular ticket for the bout is $60, while VIP ticket is $2000.
Bolum, a former Nigerian Air Force officer, who hails from Ughelli, Delta State, said yesterday that he had been training seriously towards the fight, assuring that he will teach his opponent, Apichet Siakane of Thailand, a bitter lesion on Friday, November 11.
At the Athens 2004 Olympics, Bolum was among seven boxers who flew Nigeria’s flag. While five of them lost out in their first matches, Bolum and Muideen Ganiyu made it to the quarterfinals.
After beating his opponents from Gabon, Ngnitedem, in the round of 32, and edging out India’s Prasad in the round of 16, Bolum was denied a place in the medal zone by Worapoj Petchkoom of Thailand.
Now, the Nigerian sees Friday’s fight against Apichet Siakane as a golden opportunity to pay the people of Thailand back in their own coin.
“As far as I am concerned, Apichet Siakane will pay for the sin his brother committed far back 2004 in Athens. I will punish him inside the ring and I will knock him down by God’s grace,” he stated.
Bolum took his professional boxing career to Canada some years ago before relocating to Sydney, Australia.
While Bolum has not tested action since 2011, his opponent from Thailand has had over 60 Mai Thai boxing fights.
According to Bolum, who has moved up to 60kg, the fight is being packaged by Nick of AMS Scaffolding, Sydney, under Neutral Corner Fights Promotion. “The Promoter, Mr. Paul Nasari, is a former boxer and he has so much confidence in me. I have been training hard under Mark Gresch of Jabout Boxing gymnasium here in Sydney,” he stated.

IYANYA NOW JOINS MAVIN RECORDS; DON JAZZY AND CREW!!

Don Jazzy & Iyanya
Yes! It has been official, Kukere singer, Iyanya Mbuk is now a Mavin Records act. The Your Waist master in a shock unexpected move, inked a deal with the Don Jazzy-owned record label.

Speaking on the deal, Iyanya said it took him a couple of months to make the decision, adding that after he released the single, Gift, last year, he left Made Men Music and joined Temple Management.

According to him, he needed to work with someone who understands the music industry and can help him fulfill the dream of getting his music right; reason he went with Don Jazzy.

“I chose him because I realised the need to work with someone to bring out the real Iyanya, which is the singing Iyanya, and at the same time, commercialise the music.”

In a post on his Instagram page, frontline producer and chief executive officer of Mavin Records, Michael Collins, popularly known by stage his moniker, Don Jazzy wrote: “The SUPREME MAVIN DYNASTY is pleased to welcome Iyanya to the ever growing Mavin Family. Please join us to welcome him and let the world know that we ‘Up2Sumting’. MavinActivated.”

The deal as gathered, will bring a more positive twist to the career of the Ibibio born-singer, who has spent the past six years running his record label, Made Men Music Group in partnership with his manager and partner, Ubi Franklin.

He had in July this year, wrote on his Instagram: “I’ll be launching my new label and new album soon.” This sparked some reactions among fans and industry enthusiasts.

Iyanya until his decision to quit, was a co-owner of MMMG, an outfit he runs with his manager and friend, Ubi Franklin. The duo had set up the record label in 2011, and signed artistes like Tekno, Selebobo, Mr. Chibbz, and Tonye Garrick.

Singer Emma Nyra was once part of the record label until she acrimoniously departed in 2014, stating personal reasons. Baci was also affiliated with the label for six years, but he was never offered a contract and he left sometime this year.

Iyanya, until 2008, when he won the ‘MTN Project Fame West Africa’ was unknown, but he has become popular with his work in the Nigeria music industry. He has released three albums including ‘My Story’ (2009), ‘Iyanya Vs Desire’ (2013) and ‘Applaudise’ (2015).

Prior to his move to the Mavin, Iyanya was working on returning to his R&B roots, and was planning a collaborative R&B album with E.M.E singer, Banky W. He has released two singles, ‘Type of Woman’ and ‘Heart Beat’ from the project; no word has been given if the project will still continue or be dropped.

The singer upon penning the deal with Mavin, put out a single titled ‘Up 2 Sumtin’ featuring Don Jazzy and Dr Sid.According to industry observers, Don Baba J as funky called has spent his career signing young unproven talents and nurtured them into stars. They are somewhat skeptical but prayed for the success of relationship, stressing that the new contract with Iyanya is unfamiliar territory for the producer cum singer.

Like his new signee, Don Jazzy shares a similar story with Iyanya; he formerly co-owned and ran the defunct record label — Mo’Hits Records, in partnership with D’banj, before they both went their separate ways in 2011.

In 2014, he announced the signing of three acts — Reekado Banks, Di’Ja and Korede Bello, all who he has transitioned into stars in their rights. Other members of his Supreme Mavin Dynasty include Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, and D’Prince.

Reacting to news, Ubi Franklin said he is well happy for his partner and artiste. “We are all human beings; today Iyanya is 30 by age. As a 30-year-old man, you are able to take any decision on your own; you can change your mind, do whatever you want to do.”

“The most important thing is that from what I have seen, trust me he is happy. Nobody takes a decision that is going to be bad for him; I still know he still has his own plans for his label. But at this point, I know Iyanya is where good music comes from,” he stated.

Four drug suspects arrested in Lagos while leaving for China, Indonesia....

Cocaine Pills
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested four suspected drug traffickers smuggling narcotics weighing a total of 8.745 kilogrammes to China, Indonesia, and Qatar.

In a statement on Friday, the agency said the suspects were arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, with the drugs comprising cannabis 5.200kg, cocaine 1.415kg, and methamphetamine 2.130kg.

Two of the suspects were going to China, one to Indonesia and another to Qatar, destinations where drug trafficking is punishable by death, the NDLEA said.

Peter Aniebue, who sells clothes at Aswani market in Lagos, allegedly inserted eleven wraps of cocaine weighing 460 grammes into his anus while Sokpe Zubbye, 37, a freight forwarder from Anambra State, allegedly ingested 955 grammes of cocaine. Both suspects were going to China.

Hyacinth Ugwuezumba, 38, who deals in musical instrument at Alaba market, Lagos, was also caught with 2.130kg of methamphetamine. Mr. Ugwuezumba allegedly ingested 36 wraps weighing 570 grammes and packed 1.560kg in his luggage on his way to Indonesia.

The other suspect, James Obinna, 30, an Aluminium fabricator in Umuahia whose destination is Doha, Qatar, was found in possession of 5.2kg of cannabis.

“All four suspects are under investigation and would be charged to court soon,” said Ahmadu Garba, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos airport.

The NDLEA quoted Mr. Zubbye, who was caught with a Ghanaian passport and whose real name is Nzube Chukwudi, as saying he was promised N1 million to smuggle the drugs.

“I work in China as a freight forwarder and I am married with two children,” Mr. Zubbye said.

“Due to the recession, I am having difficulty in settling my bills and I was lured into drug trafficking while seeking for assistance.

“Since I live in China, I felt it will be easy for me to go through security checks but unfortunately I was caught.”

Mr. Aniebue, 50, blamed his involvement on financial predicament, according to the NDLEA.

“I was afraid of swallowing the drug so I inserted eleven wraps of cocaine weighing 460 grammes into my anus,” he said.

“I sell clothes at Aswani market but poor patronage and family problems have turned me into a pauper. I regret everything.”

Mr. Ugwuezumba said he collected the drugs along Badagry expressway “according to the plan.”

“I ingested 570 grammes while 1.560kg was packed in a luggage. They promised me $3,000 and I agreed to smuggle the drug to Indonesia because I have no money.

“I am very sad because I married only few months ago.”

Mr. Obinna told investigators he made a mistake getting involved in drug trafficking.

“My friend gave me a bag to deliver at Doha but in the process of search, NDLEA discovered cannabis inside it,” he said.

“I made a mistake and I find it difficult to forgive myself because my wife is pregnant.”

Muhammad Abdallah, the NDLEA Chairman, described the action of the suspects as unfortunate and shameful, adding that drug trafficking is a criminal offence that had sent many to early graves.

“Drug couriers must see beyond the transient monetary gains of narcotic trafficking and appreciate the fact that they are actually endorsing their death warrant,” Mr. Abdallah, a retired colonel, said.

“It is sad that the execution of those caught with drugs in these countries has not deterred them.

“Many have died prematurely while others are daily counting down to their execution. This development has left their family members and friends in pains.”
